I've been trying to make the move to Linux, but I've been using Windows since Win95. The learning curve for Linux is more than I currently have time for.
I'm an open source supporter and fan, and I hope to use Linux as my default someday.
I have Fedora installed, but it's Fedora 12, so you can see that I'm already behind.
are much simpler Fedora
I have a good friend who is pretty much available to help me with Fedora anytime that I need and I'd trust him to do it remotely if need be so that's one reason, the main reason why I was going with Fedora.
I love the UI, but I need something that makes installing software easier.
Click and go is what I want you know?
has a very simple and intuitive user interface.
is based on Gnome.
has a forum in all languages.
a wiki in any language.
has by default all the programs you need to use the pc now.
software will find them in the repository, in.deb (easy to install, almost like.exe Windows)
the graphics are very nice and themes are changed.
Of course, Fedora is based on Redhot, is fairly stable ..... but you must use a little more command line.
I will recommend Ubuntu to get closer to Linux.
alternatively (if you like the kde interface) you can install Kubuntu, PCLinuxOS (KDE interface) opensuse (one of the simplest operating systems), linux mind (very simple and based on Ubuntu-Debian_derived).
"Fedora see him again for a user who works on the Internet or as a server .... definitely not the most simple .. to start closer to Linux.
The thing that I like about KDE is how many themes there are, and/or how skinable it is.
I'm pretty computer savvy and don't mind a learning curve and figuring things out, but as it stands, I'll be losing a lot of good Windows only apps, especially graphics ones. I'm pretty familiar with Inkscape, and ok with Gimp, but not exactly what I'm used to. Although Gimp is great software.
The other software or most of it that I need, I'll be cool with and know well like, Mozilla Thunderbird of course Firefox, OpenOffice.org, SMPlayer, FileZiilla and others because I use all of those now.
Do you know which of the versions that you mentioned have live CD's that i could try out?
Thanks.
Ken
why not install dual boot?
to a partition from the windows (so you can use Photoshop, Corel etc.etc.)
the other partition, install windows.
if your computer is not old ... can support xp?
I have 3 internal hard drives. Fedora is on one, Vista (which sucks), on another, and the 3rd is for backup.
I make a lot of content for Windows users, so I'd have to keep some version of Windows going to test and review it.
on the hard drive where you installed fedora, kubuntu linux install (since you like the kde interface).
Subscribe to the official forum of ubuntu [link]
begins to review the basics and what interests you ... it is very easy to use.
I'm sure that after a month of use do not know do not.
a little advice ..... eliminates having seven or XP and installs are much easier and lighter to use.
if you want I can lend a hand .... but I can not speak good English ... it helped me with a simultaneous translator on the internet ....
**please ..sorry for my bad english
